Ще не вмерла України

While we’re on the subject of national anthems, what about Ukraine? This YouTube translation of the State Anthem of Ukraine is from the VocalNationalAnthems channel on YouTube.

Pavlo Chubynsky’s 1862 patriotic poem was set to music in 1863 by composer Mykhailo Verbytsky. It has seen its people through times of independence and absorption by the Russian Empire, Poland, Austria-Hungary, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

The independent state of Ukraine adopted the music as its anthem in 1992 after the fall of the Soviet Union. Now Russia wants it back.

But with 1.8 million views on this video alone, Ukraine’s freedom has not yet perished, nor has her glory. The world is singing and praying, and mourning, along with an independent people.
